AMS Week

As part of the Mathematics Department's goal to support Students achieve and excel in their academics, we believe that this can be done by being concerned with the well being of all the other aspects of life. As such, AMS sets aside a week,to be celebrated by the members of the association as AMS week.

This takes place every semester of the academic year. It usually starts on a Monday and ends with a thanksgiving service in the AMS Christian Fellowship Sunday prayer session. It is seriously packed with leisure and vigorous activities which is always fun and something all students of the Department long for each time.

AMS week comes along with a lot of bright opportunities. It gives Students and Lecturers (with all academic staff) the chance to relate on a non-academic leisure filled platform. At this point they can play and shed off all unnecessary tension built in the course of their stay in the semester. They also have the chance to play a lot of games and have fun together.

It presents colleague course mates with the opportunity to mingle together in a less academic and a more leisurely environment. Junior and Senior course mates also get the chance to mingle and interact with each other. This enhances cordiality within the Department and among students.

Usually it is marked by half day lectures and sometimes the whole day could be given off. Students then converge at the Paa Joe Stadium of the Univeresity and the program commences. All manner of games could be located on this day;football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball, athletics, chaskele, ampe and many other local flavored games. These are arranged in forms of class competitions and the winners of each class gets an award. The overall winner is crowned the AMS class for the year. They retain the title until the next AMS week.
