General Elections

The structure of AMS is such that, it is mainly run by students who have been voted into office as executives of the body. AMS is a democratic body and presents every student with the opportunity to become what he/she wants to become. As such, there is a period of two weeks assigned by the Judiciary Commission(J.C.) of the association, where by students interested in taking up an office,files an application, upon nomination by at least four members of the Association not belonging to their year group.

These applications are screened and qualifying candidates are contacted and arranged to be vetted. Emerging candidates are then given a period of two weeks to launch their campaign and solicit for votes.

Campaigning must end on the day before the elections. Voting takes place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and results of the elections are published no later than six hours after close of voting on the Departments website and notice boards.

Students of the Department require a Student id card to vote and a student can only vote once in an election year. Once the results have been published by the J.C. any unsatisfied student can file for a re-voting only if the J.C. approves that the reasons submitted are tangible,valid and legal. If an application for re-voting is not submitted within three working days, the results are finalized.
